Echmiadzin: 20 km from Yerevan, is the religious capital of Armenia (Armenian Vatican). The Cathedral, the oldest Christian temple, was founded in 301.

Garni: 35 km from Yerevan is a pagan temple built in 1st B.C. and served as summer residence of Armenian kings since 289 AD.

Geghard: 40 km from Yerevan is an ancient monastery, partly carved out of a mountain, dated from the 7th and 10th centures.
